Born: May 6, 1879, Lisanna Dorabem
[Died] December 18, 1952, Prague Czech orientalist and linguist. Professor at the University of Prague. He specialized in Assyriology, but also dabbled in the study of Indo-European languages, and succeeded in deciphering the Hittite cuneiform script, identifying it as belonging to the Indo-European language family. The results of his research are published in Die Sprache der Hethiter (1916), The Language of the Hittites.
