Toyo University - Toyo University

It is a private institution. Its predecessor was the private Philosophy School, which was established in 1887 (Meiji 20) by philosopher Inoue Enryo with the idea that "philosophy is the foundation of all learning" and the founding spirit of the school being "patriotism and the protection of one's country" in order to re-establish Oriental studies. In 1903 (Meiji 36), the Toyo University Specialized Department was established under the Technical School Act, and in 1906 it was renamed Toyo University. In 1928 (Showa 3), it became a university under the University Act and established the Faculty of Letters (comprised of the Department of Philosophy, Department of Buddhist Studies, and Department of Chinese Philosophy and Chinese Literature). In 1949 (Showa 24), it transitioned to a new university system. As of 2010, in addition to the Faculty of Letters (part-time and part-time), the university has faculties of Economics (part-time and part-time), Law (part-time and part-time), Sociology (part-time and part-time), Science and Engineering, Business Administration (part-time and part-time), International and Regional Studies, Life Sciences, Life Design, and Information Studies, as well as graduate schools of Letters, Sociology, Law, Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, International and Regional Studies, Life Sciences, Welfare Social Design, Interdisciplinary and Integrated Science, and Law. The university's headquarters are located at 5-28-20 Hakusan, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (Hakusan Campus).
