Kawauchiura

A district in the northeast of Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It is located on the east coast of Hirado Island, 4 km southwest of Hirado Port. In the 17th century, when trade with both the Netherlands and Britain was taking place, Kawauchiura was the outer harbor of Hirado Port, and there were warehouses, ship repair yards, accommodation for sailors waiting for the wind, and brothels. Maruyama, said to be the site of a brothel, is now maintained as a park, and contains the remains of Zheng Chenggong's residence and mausoleum. Kawauchi kamaboko, which was invented at the time as food for foreigners, is now produced as a traditional industry. Pearl farming is thriving within the bay. Behind it is the scenic Kawauchi Pass.

長崎県平戸市(ひらど)北東部の地区。平戸島東岸、平戸港の南西4キロメートルの地点に位置する。17世紀オランダ、イギリス両国との貿易が行われた当時、川内浦は平戸港の外港をなし、倉庫群や船舶修理所、風待ちの船員のための宿舎や妓楼(ぎろう)もあった。妓楼跡と伝えられる丸山(まるやま)は現在公園として整備され、鄭成功(ていせいこう)の居宅跡と廟(びょう)がある。また、当時外国人のための食料としてくふうされたという「川内蒲鉾(かまぼこ)」も現在伝統産業として生産されている。湾内では真珠養殖が盛んである。背後には川内峠の景勝地がある。
