Aksiba - Aksiba

It is a deciduous shrub of the genus Vaccinium in the family Ericaceae (APG classification: Ericaceae). There is a theory that it should be treated as a separate genus in the genus Hugeria . It is 20-80 cm tall and has green branches. The leaves are alternate, ovate, 2-6 cm long, pointed at the tip, and have fine sawtooth edges. The surface has concave veins and a net pattern. In June and July, pale pink-white flowers open downward on 1-2 cm long drooping flower stalks in the leaf axils. The corolla is deeply divided into four lobes, the lobes are lanceolate, about 1 cm long, and curved outward, and there are eight stamens that protrude from the flower like a beak, and the calyx is shallowly divided into four lobes. The fruit is spherical, about 7 mm in diameter, hangs down on a thin stalk, and ripens red in September and October. It grows in mountainous areas and is distributed in southwestern Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Jeju Island in the south of the Korean Peninsula. The variant, Keikakuba, has small leaves and glandular hairs on the young branches, leaves, and flower stalks, and is distributed from the Kinki region of Honshu westward, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
