Japanese: ハリタケ(針茸) - ハリタケ（英語表記）tooth fungi

A general term for mushrooms belonging to the Basidiomycetes order Aphyllosteganaceae family. In fungal taxonomy, it is classified as one of the genera Hydnum and Stecherinum . Some have well-developed stalks, but they are lateral. The underside of the cap is densely covered with long, tooth-like projections, and the fruit layer forms on the surface of these projections. Some grow on dead wood or stumps and are woody or leathery, while others grow on the ground and are fleshy and soft; the former include Kanoshita and Itachiharitake, and the latter include Nikuharitake and Mannenharitake. Kanoshita is edible.

担子菌類ヒダナシタケ目ハリタケ科に属するキノコ類の総称。菌類の分類学上はハリタケ属 Hydnum，ニクハリタケ属 Steccherinumなどにまたがっている。柄の発達したものもあるが側生である。傘の裏には長い歯のような突起が密生しており，子実層はこの突起の面にできる。枯れた材や切り株に出て木質または革質のもの，地上に生えて肉質で軟らかいものなどがあり，前者にはカノシタ，イタチハリタケ，後者にはニクハリタケ，マンネンハリタケなどがある。なおカノシタは食用になる。
