A language spoken by approximately 500,000 to 900,000 people in the Brittany region of France. It belongs to the Celtic language family. It is the present-day form of the language (Brythonic) spoken by the Celts who fled from Great Britain to Brittany in the 5th and 6th centuries after the Anglo-Saxon invasion. It has been overtaken by French and is gradually declining in popularity, but there are efforts to promote education and dissemination of the language.
