A Soto sect temple in Ujiyamada, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is more specifically called Buttokusan Kannon Doriin Kosho Horin Zenji. It was founded in 1233 (Tenpuku 1) when Dogen, the founder of the Soto sect, built a temple on the site of Gokurakuji Temple in Fukakusa, Uji County (Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City) after returning from China, and named it Kosho Horin Temple. For the next 11 years, it flourished as the first main training center of the Soto sect and a place of training for Dogen's disciples, but after Dogen moved to Eiheiji Temple in Echizen (Fukui Prefecture) in 1243 (Kangen 1), it fell into disrepair and was further destroyed by fire during war. The current building was rebuilt at its current location in 1648 (Keian 1) by Nagai Naomasa, lord of Yodo Castle, with Ban'an Eishu as its founder.
