Born: July 8, 1867, Königsberg
[Died] April 22, 1945. Moritzburg, near Dresden. German female painter, printmaker, and sculptor. She studied in Berlin and Munich, and in 1891 married doctor Karl Kolbitz and settled in Berlin. She started out by producing oil paintings, then etchings, lithographs, and woodblock prints. While living with poor workers, she produced a series of socialist-themed works, including Weavers' Revolt (1895-98), The Peasants' War (1902-08), War (1922-23), The Proletariat (1925), and Death (1934-35). Her style was expressionistic, and was influenced by M. Klinger and E. Munch. She painted many portraits, including self-portraits, and also produced several bronze sculptures, including the war memorial in Essen.

ドイツの女性画家,版画家,彫刻家。ベルリンとミュンヘンで学び,1891年に医者カルル・コルビッツと結婚しベルリンに定住。初め油絵,のちにエッチング,リトグラフ,木版画の制作を始め,貧しい労働者たちと生活をともにしながら,『織工の暴動』 (1895~98) ,『農民戦争』 (1902~08) ,『戦争』 (1922~23) ,『プロレタリアート』 (1925) ,『死』 (1934~35) などの社会主義的なテーマの連作を発表。作風は表現主義的で,M.クリンガーや E.ムンクの影響がみられる。絵画には自画像を含めて肖像画が多く,またエッセンにある戦争記念碑などブロンズ彫刻もいくつか制作した。
