Japanese: 古川[市] - ふるかわ

An old city in north-central Miyagi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1950. The city center, where the Rikuuto East Line passes, is the intersection of the Oshu Highway and the Uzen Highway, and developed as a post town and market town. A regular market has been held there since the Keicho era, and is still held there in the spring. The Tohoku Shinkansen and Tohoku Expressway also pass through the city. Occupying the lowlands of the Senboku Plain, it produces a lot of high-quality rice, such as Sasanishiki and Hitomebore. In March 2006, it merged with Matsuyama-cho, Sanbongi-cho, and Kashimadai-cho in Shida County, Iwadeyama-cho and Naruko-cho in Tamatsukuri County, and Tajiri-cho in Toda County to become a city, Osaki City. 134.14 ^km2 . Population: 73,136 (2003).

宮城県中北部の旧市。1950年市制。陸羽東線が通じる中心市街は奥州街道と羽前街道の交差する地で，宿場町，市場町として発達，慶長年間から続く定期市が，現在も春季に開かれる。東北新幹線，東北自動車道も通じる。仙北平野の低地を占め，ササニシキ，ひとめぼれなどの良質米を多産。2006年３月，志田郡松山町，三本木町，鹿島台町，玉造郡岩出山町，鳴子町，遠田郡田尻町と合併し市制，大崎市となる。134.14km²。７万3136人（2003）。
