King of Sparta. Reigned 244-241 BC. Hellenistic reformer. At the time, Sparta was suffering from a serious debt problem, with only about 700 full citizens owning land, and most of the land in the hands of about 100 people, causing a decline in the number of citizens. Hoping to restore the Lycurgus system and regain Sparta's hegemony, he embarked on various reforms. His plan was to restore citizenship to those who had lost their citizenship by canceling debts and redistributing land, and to grant citizenship to periodicoi and foreigners who had received an education appropriate for free men and were capable of military service, thereby creating a citizen body of 4,500.

スパルタ王。在位，前244‐前241年。ヘレニズム期の改革者。当時スパルタは借財問題が深刻化し，土地を所有する完全市民はわずか700人ほどで，大部分の土地は100人ほどの手に帰しており，市民数の減少に苦しんでいた。リュクルゴス体制を復活して，スパルタの覇権を再興することを考えた彼は，諸種の改革に着手する。すなわち借財の帳消しと土地再分配によって，市民権喪失者を市民身分に復し，自由人にふさわしい教育を受けて軍役能力のあるペリオイコイと外人に市民権を与え，4500の市民団を創出する計画がそれである。
