Pan Geng (English spelling)

Japanese: 盤庚 - ばんこう（英語表記）Pan Geng; P`an Kêng

The 19th king of the Shang Dynasty in China. In oracle bones, he is written as Ban Geng. From the Book of Documents and other documents, it is said that the capital was moved from the south to the north of the Yellow River at this time. The location was the present-day Yin Ruins in Anyang, Henan Province, and it is believed that the capital was there until the last king, King Chu, but no oracle bones from the Pan Geng period have been discovered. The three chapters on Pan Geng in the Book of Documents are said to have been written to persuade the people who were opposed to the move.
