Blackpool (English spelling)
A city in the northwest of England, United Kingdom. It is a unitary authority. It was separated from Lancashire County in 1998 to become a unitary authority. It is a seaside resort town on the Irish Sea, about 70 km northwest of Manchester. In the 16th century, it was a small village called Poolehouses, but from the end of the 18th century, inns lined the coast, and it grew with the development of the Lancashire industrial area. It is crowded with more than 8 million tourists a year, mainly workers in the industrial area of ​​northern England and their families. Other industries include biscuits, candy, and assembly furniture, and horticulture. Blackpool Tower (158 m), built in 1895 in imitation of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, is the symbol of the city. It is also known as a venue for various conferences. Area 35 km2 . Population 142,900 (2005 estimate).
