One of the annual events held by the Imperial Court and nobles during the Heian Period. It is also called "Gokusui no En" or "Megurimizu no Toyo no Akari." A curved stream is a stream that flows through the foothills, forests, and gardens. On the day of the third month of the month or the Peach Festival on March 3, participants sit facing the curved stream, recite a poem before the cup that flows from upstream passes in front of them, pick up the cup and drink sake, and hold a banquet in a separate hall to recite the poem they have composed. The first record of this event is in the Nihon Shoki, in the entry for the third month of the month of the month of the first year of Emperor Kenso (485), that it was held in the rear garden. As a court event, it was temporarily suspended in the third year of the Daido Period (808) of Emperor Heizei, but was revived in the third year of the Koho Period (966) of Emperor Murakami, and it began to be held in the residences of aristocrats, but it was not held during the Sengoku Period. Nowadays, at Jonan-gu Shrine in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, a reproduction is held on April 29th and November 3rd based on the Edo-period paintings on the cedar doors of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. On the first Sunday in March, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture holds the Kyokusui-no-en Banquet, which is said to have been started by Dazai Daini Ono no Yoshifuru in 958. It is also held at Motsu-ji Temple in Hiraizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture (on the fourth Sunday in May).
