A former town in Yatsuka County, located on the Shimane Peninsula in northeastern Shimane Prefecture. The settlements of Kaga, Oashi, and Nonami are located on the Japan Coast, and the town produces a lot of yellowtail and wakame seaweed, and also cultivates grapes. The coast is included in Daisen-Oki National Park, and is home to Kaganokukedo (a natural monument) famous for its marine erosion, and Katsurashima beach. In March 2005, the town was incorporated into Matsue City along with Kashima Town, Mihonoseki Town, Tamayu Town, Shinji Town, Yatsuka Town, and Yakumo Village in Yatsuka County. 37.23 km2 . 4,531 people (2003). 島根県北東部,島根半島にある八束(やつか)郡の旧町。日本海岸に加賀(かか),大芦(おあし),野波などの集落があり,ブリ,ワカメを多産,ブドウも栽培する。海岸は大山隠岐(だいせんおき)国立公園に含まれ,海食地形で有名な加賀ノ潜戸(くけど)(天然記念物),桂島海水浴場などがある。2005年3月八束郡鹿島町,美保関町,玉湯町,宍道町,八束町,八雲村と松江市へ編入。37.23km2。4531人(2003)。
