It is currently the commercial and industrial center of the surrounding agricultural areas, distributing grains, potatoes, tomatoes, fruits, livestock, and beef, and manufacturing cement, pottery, soap, furniture, shoes, frozen meat, dairy products, etc. The city is located on high ground about 3 km from the riverbank to avoid flood damage, and there are railways and roads leading to the coastal port of Bajada Grande. The Paraná Cathedral (1883) and the Argentine Federal Senate Building (58) in the city are designated as national historical monuments. The city is the transportation center of the state, with railroads and roads extending to all parts of the state, as well as bridges and tunnels connecting it to Santa Fe and the right bank of the Paraná River.
