Both were American animators and directors. They founded Fleischer Studios in 1921, with the elder brother producing and the younger brother directing, and were active in the world of animated films for the next quarter century. Their works include the series From the Inkwell (Coco the Clown) and Screen Song, as well as the creation of Betty Boop in 1930 and the introduction of Popeye, the protagonist of a newspaper comic strip, to the big screen in 1933. They also produced the color cartoon series Color Classics from 1934. They also released the feature-length works Gulliver's Travels (1939) and Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941), the latter of which was highly acclaimed.
