Kogge Ship - Koggesen (English spelling)

Kogge Ship - Koggesen (English spelling)
One of the various ships used in maritime commerce in medieval Europe, it was widely used in the Hanseatic trade in the north and became its main type of ship. It is also called a cog. It appeared in the 12th century and continued to be used until the 15th century, but the 13th and 14th centuries, the period when the Hanseatic League flourished, were also the period when the cog ships were at their peak. In terms of appearance, they are basically characterized by a single mast, a high deck, and a wide beam. Although it is a wooden sailing ship, it reflects the advances in medieval shipbuilding technology that accompanied the revival of commerce, and is more seaworthy and has a larger loading capacity than ships from the early Middle Ages.
