A form of consumer activism. It is a movement that consumers unite when they are forced to pay unreasonably high prices due to corporate monopolies, oligopolies, price fixing, cornering, and withholding. A famous example of a successful movement in Japan is the two-tiered pricing of color televisions (where the price for exports was low and the cost was added to the price for domestic consumers), which was resolved by consumers boycotting products, resulting in companies correcting the prices. Success is difficult without long-term consumer unity. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
