1858‐1937 Hungarian violinist and composer. He studied under Joachim in Berlin and under Butan in Paris, and in 1886 became a professor at the Budapest Conservatory. In addition to his solo activities, he organized a quartet. Among his students were top performers such as Szigeti. His compositions include operas, symphonies, and many short violin pieces that use the melodies of Hungarian folk songs. He also published edited versions of works by Bach, Paganini, and others.
