Rock daisy - Rock daisy

A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family (APG classification: Asteraceae). The roots are woody, the stems are erect, and are 10-60 cm tall. From July to October, one to several large flower heads bloom at the top of the stem. The flower heads consist of white ray florets and tubular flowers, and are 3-6 cm in diameter. They grow in rock crevices in the mountainous regions of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and are distributed widely, from Korea and northeastern China through Siberia to eastern Europe. This species is highly polymorphic.

キク科（APG分類：キク科）の多年草。根は木質で、茎は直立し、高さ10～60センチメートル。7～10月、茎頂に1～数個の大形の頭花を開く。頭花は白色の舌状花と筒状花とからなり、径3～6センチメートル。本州、四国、九州の山地の岩の裂け目などに生え、分布域は広く、朝鮮、中国東北部からシベリアを経てヨーロッパ東部に至る。多形に富む種である。
