A strike that took place in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba, Canada, from May 15 to June 26, 1919. It began as a protest against the need to improve working conditions for construction and metalworkers, but developed into a general strike that affected the entire city. In addition to general factors such as the rise in unemployment among demobilized soldiers after the end of World War I and the rise of the labor union movement stimulated by the success of the Russian Revolution, there were also circumstances specific to the city of Winnipeg. Namely, Winnipeg was one of the centers of the reform movement in Canada after World War I, and saw a large influx of European immigrants with radical ideas, but at the same time, it had a long history of development among western cities, and the conservative middle class also had considerable power.
