An alcoholic drink made by fermenting grapes. The English word wine, the French word vin, and the German word wein all have their origins in the Latin word vinum. In the past, grapes were only grown in the Northern Hemisphere, but after the second half of the 16th century, they began to be cultivated in South America, South Africa, Australia, and other places, and wine began to be produced in the Southern Hemisphere as well. Wine is a simple fermented alcoholic drink that turns into alcohol simply by fermenting the sugar in grapes, so it is probably the alcoholic drink that humans have been making for a long time.
