Push-pull amplifier

A type of power amplifier. Two output transistors operate symmetrically for positive and negative input signals. Because the output waveform is symmetrical between positive and negative, there is no even-order harmonic distortion, and high-fidelity output can be obtained. Classes are classified as A, AB, B, and C, depending on the DC input current when there is no signal. Classes A, AB, and B are used in audio amplifiers, while Class C is used in radio frequency power amplifiers. In conventional push-pull circuits using the same transistors, an output transformer was required to combine the output (Figure 1).

電力増幅器の一形式。正負の入力信号に対して2個の出力トランジスターが対称に動作する。出力波形が正負対称になるため偶数次高調波ひずみがなく，高忠実度の出力が得られる。無信号時の直流入力電流に応じて，A級，AB級，B級，C級にわかれる。A級，AB級，B級はオーディオ増幅器で用いられ，C級は無線周波の電力増幅器に用いられる。従来の同じトランジスターを用いたプッシュプル回路では出力を合成するために出力トランスが必要であった(図1)。
