...In other words, this methodology insists that theater history is not the history of plays, but the history of the plays that have been performed, and aims to reconstruct past performances. This lineage of theater history research has produced the 10-volume European Theater History (1957-74) by Heinz Kindermann (1894- ), founder of the Institute for Theater Studies at the University of Vienna. On the other hand, we should also remember Arthur Kutscher (1878-1960), who taught theater at the University of Munich for many years.
