Time switch - Time switch

A device that is connected between an electrical appliance and a power source and automatically switches on at a preset time. It is also called a timer. There are two types: one that uses a spring or a small motor as a power source, but the small motor type has become mainstream recently. There are two types of operation: a table clock type that combines a clock and a timer, and a slide type that is just a timer. Both types have "on → off" and "off → on" plug positions on the timer side, and the plug of the appliance to be used is selected according to the purpose and connected. The table clock type has an analog type (pointer type) and a digital type (numerical display type) for displaying the time, and if you set the pointer to the desired time, the electrical appliance will turn on and off at that time. The slide type turns on and off at the desired time if you set the difference between the current time and the desired time. The table clock type can also be used as a general clock. Some also have a buzzer or music box that sounds at the desired time, so you can know when it is on or off even if you are away from the appliance. The digital type can be used alone or built into a television, stereo, or VCR, and the time of the desired program can be set. In addition to being used as standalone time switches, slide types are also used built into electric rice cookers, microwave ovens, electric washing machines, etc. When using a time switch with other electrical appliances connected, make sure that the current of the appliance does not exceed the allowable current of the time switch. Standalone time switches can be set for up to 24 hours for clock types, and from a few tens of minutes to 12 hours for slide types.

電気器具と電源の間に接続し、あらかじめセットした時間にスイッチを自動的に作動させる器具。タイマーともいう。動力にはぜんまいを使ったものと、小型モーターを使ったものとがあるが、最近は小型モーターのものが主流になっている。作動方式には、時計とタイマーを兼用した置時計式と、タイマーだけのスライド式とがある。どちらもタイマー側に「入→切」「切→入」の差込み位置があり、使用する器具のプラグを目的に応じてその位置を選択して接続する。置時計式は、時間の表示方法にアナログ式（指針式）とデジタル式（数値表示式）があり、指針を希望の時刻にあわせておけば、その時刻になると電気器具が入・切する。スライド式は、現在の時刻と希望時刻の差をセットしておけば、希望時刻に入・切する。置時計式は一般の時計として利用することもできる。また希望時刻にブザーやオルゴールが鳴るものもあり、器具から離れていても入・切を知ることができる。デジタル式は、単体で使われるほかに、テレビ、ステレオ、ビデオデッキなどに組み込まれ、必要な番組を時刻セットすることができる。スライド式は単体のタイムスイッチのほかに、電気炊飯器、電子レンジ、電気洗濯機などに組み込まれて使われている。タイムスイッチにほかの電気器具を接続して使用する場合は、使用機器の電流がタイムスイッチの許容電流を超過しないようにする。単体のものの動作時間のセットは、時計式は24時間まで、スライド式は数十分～12時間まである。
