(Cao Pi - Miscellaneous Poems) ② By extension, a metaphor for something that is as unsettled as a cloud floating in the sky, or for one's circumstances being unsettled. ※Honcho Monzui (around 1060) 7 - The Book of Pei Sui given by the Emperor to Bohai (Ki no Haseo) "I live to the south of the southern mountains. The floating clouds are unsettled ." ③ A metaphor for something that is fleeting, uncertain, unreliable, or incoherent. ※Sankyo Shiki (around 797) - "Wishing for wealth in the floating clouds, gathering treasures like foam." ※Joruri - Sayogoromo Oshidō Kenchi (1739) - vol. 1 - "Forget yourself in the wealth of the floating clouds ." ④ Something that exists far away from oneself, like a floating cloud. A metaphor for something that is completely unrelated. [The Analects of Confucius - Shuer] ⑤ (Based on the fact that clouds hide the sun) A metaphor for something that gets in the way of clear judgment and enlightenment. [1] 〘 noun 〙 (also "ukikumo") ① A cloud floating in the air. ※Kanesukeshu (c. 933) "If I had not been a floating cloud, I would not have known that the moon was far away." ② A metaphor for something unsettled and unstable. Often used with "uki" and "uki" as a pun. ※Takamura Monogatari (late 12th century) "The smoke of my carefree thoughts floated away, and disappeared." [2] A novel. Written by Futabatei Shimei. Published in 1887-1889 , it was later discovered that the work had been aborted. Written in a colloquial style, it depicts a young man who is frustrated in the utilitarian society of the Meiji era. It is the first fully realistic novel in Japan, and had a great influence on later generations.

うき‐ぐも【浮雲】

[1] 〘名〙 (「うきくも」とも)① 空中に浮かんで漂う雲。※兼輔集(933頃)「うきくもに身をしなさねばひさかたの月へだつともしられざりけり」② 物事が落ち着かないで不安定なさまのたとえ。「浮き」と「憂き」をかけて用いられる場合が多い。※篁物語(12C後か)「いささめにつけし思ひの煙こそ身をうき雲となりて果てけれ」[2] 小説。二葉亭四迷作。明治二〇~二二年(一八八七‐八九)に発表、のちに中絶したことが判明。功利主義的明治社会の中で挫折する青年の姿を、言文一致体で描く。日本最初の本格的写実小説で、後世に大きな影響を及ぼした。
