Fu Ji (English spelling)

Japanese: 扶乩 - フーチー（英語表記）fú jī

A type of divination practiced in China. Also called "fukei." A forked stick (bushi) with a brush attached to the bottom is placed on the sand to summon the gods, and the will of the gods is known by the mark written on the sand. One or two people hold the bushi, and sometimes a winnowing stick is used. On the 15th of the first month of the year, a statue of Shigu, the toilet god, is made using a ladle, sieve, and winnowing, and the gods are summoned to ask the will of the gods. Fukei is also called Fuji or Fulan, and has been practiced since ancient times when Taoist scriptures were produced, and is still practiced in temples in Taiwan and Hong Kong today.

中国で行われた占いの一種。〈ふけい〉とも呼ぶ。二股の木(乩木)の下に筆の役割をするものをつけ，それを砂上に置いて神降しを行い，砂上に書かれたしるしで神意を知る方法。乩木を持つ人は1人もしくは2人で，乩木には箕（み）形のものを用いる場合もある。正月の15日に，厠神（かわやがみ）である紫姑神の神像を杓子，笊（ざる），箕で作り，神降しを行って神意を問う紫姑占いも扶乩の一つである。扶乩はまた，扶箕（ふき），扶鸞（ふらん）とも呼ばれ，古くから道教経典の製作に当たって行われ，現在でも台湾，香港の寺廟で行われる。
