A collective name for Mt. Unebi (199m), Mt. Amenokagu (152m), and Mt. Miminashi (140m) in Kashihara City in northern Nara Prefecture. The three mountains, with Mt. Miminashi at the top in the north, stand in a triangular formation in the southern part of the Nara Basin, surrounding the ruins of Fujiwara Palace. Mt. Unebi is made of biotite andesite, while Mt. Miminashi is made of garnet-bearing andesite, and is volcanic, but the mountain is buried underground. Mt. Amenokagu has a gentle slope and is made of granite and gabbro, and is a non-volcanic mountain left by erosion. He is known for a poem he wrote in reference to the fight between Prince Nakano Oe and his younger brother Prince Oama over Princess Nukata: "On Mount Kagu, the Unebi and Mimi-nashi are fighting each other. It seems that it has been like this since the Age of the Gods. Even in ancient times, it seems that even the ancients have fought over wives" (Man'yoshu, Volume 1).
