Documents written in Turkish (Uighur) that were excavated from Turfan, Hami, Kucha, and Dunhuang in Gansu Province in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China. They are also called Uighur documents. The overwhelming majority of documents have religious content, but they also include so-called secular documents such as certificates and sales contracts. Buddhist scriptures make up the largest number of religious documents. Most of them are translations of Buddhist scriptures from Tocharian, Chinese, Sanskrit, or Sogdian.
