Kegon Engi

Also known as the Illustrated Biography of the Kegon Sect's Founder. A picture scroll from the early Kamakura period. Six volumes. A biography of the monks Wonhyo and Uisang, who brought the Kegon sect from the Tang Dynasty to Silla. It uses long, continuous compositions, and the flow of the picture is smooth. It is characterized by a style of painting with free lines and light colors that capture dynamic expressions. 華厳宗祖師絵伝とも。鎌倉初期の絵巻。６巻。華厳宗を唐から新羅に伝えた元暁・義湘両僧の伝記。長い連続的構図を用い，画面の流れが流暢(りゅうちょう)。動的表現をとらえる自由な描線と淡彩の画風が特徴。明恵が詞を作成し，絵は画僧恵日房成忍筆と伝えられる。
