The Kyōtoku Rebellion

Japanese: 享徳の乱 - きょうとくのらん

The Kanto War lasted from 1454 (the third year of the Kyotoku era) to 1482. The Kamakura Kubo Ashikaga Shigeuji was in conflict with the two Uesugi clans (Yamanouchi Uesugi and Ogigayatsu Uesugi), who were the Kanto Kanrei (regent for the Kanto region), and the war broke out when Shigeuji assassinated Uesugi Noritada. After that, Shigeuji (Koga Kubo), who fled to Koga in Shimousa, and his younger brother Masatomo (Horikoshi Kubo), who was sent to Kanto by Shogun Yoshimasa and settled in Horikoshi in Izu, came into conflict. The Uesugi clan supported Masatomo and often fought against Shigeuji, but eastern warriors also supported each other, and they made peace without being able to control the entire eastern region.

1454年（享徳３年）から1482年まで続いた関東の大乱。鎌倉公方(くぼう)の足利成氏(しげうじ)が，関東管領(かんれい)の両上杉氏（山内上杉・扇谷上杉）と対立，成氏が上杉憲忠を謀殺し勃発。その後，下総(しもうさ)古河(こが)に走った成氏（古河公方）と，将軍義政(よしまさ)から関東に派遣され伊豆(いず)堀越(ほりごえ)に居を構えた弟の政知(まさとも)（堀越公方）が対立。上杉氏は政知を奉じて成氏としばしば戦ったが，東国武士もそれぞれを支持し，お互いに東国全域を支配下にできないまま和睦した。
