Tsunehiko Sano - Tsunehiko Sano

Japanese: 佐野経彦 - さのつねひこ
Tsunehiko Sano - Tsunehiko Sano

A religious figure in the late Edo and Meiji periods. Founder of Shinrikyo. Born in Tempo 5 as the eldest son of Sano Tsunekatsu in Tokuriki, Buzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture). He studied Japanese classics and medicine in his youth, and began his work as a religious figure after the Meiji Restoration. While actively writing books and donating them to various circles, he served as a religious leader in 1879 (Meiji 12), and in 1880 founded the Shinrikyo Church in Kokura. He traveled around the country, mainly in Kitakyushu, and gradually gained more followers. When Shinrikyo separated from Ontakekyo in 1894, he became its first chief priest. He used his family teachings, as well as forbidden spells and fortune-telling, as means of missionary and educational activities. He is the author of many books, including Shinrizuzukai.
