Henri Pousseur

Belgian composer. He studied at the Liège and Brussels Conservatories. In 1958, he established an electronic music studio at the Brussels Radio Station. In his early days, he was strongly influenced by A. Webern's twelve-tone technique, and produced works with the strict structure of musique seriale, such as Quintet for Memories of Webern (1955) and electronic music Scambi (1957). Later, he incorporated chance elements, and in his five-act opera Your Faust (1967), based on a libretto by M. Butor, he used a method in which the progress of the play was decided by audience votes, which caused a great stir.

ベルギーの作曲家。リエージュとブリュッセルの音楽院で学ぶ。1958年ブリュッセル放送局に電子音楽スタジオを創設。初期はA.ウェーベルンの十二音技法から強く影響を受け《ウェーベルンの思い出のための五重奏曲》(1955)，電子音楽《スカンビ》(1957)など，ミュジック･セリエルの厳密な構造をもった作品を生み出した。その後，偶然性を取り込み，M.ビュトールの台本による5幕のオペラ《あなたのファウスト》(1967)では，劇の進行を聴衆の投票によって進めていくという方法がとられ，大きな話題となった。
