A village in Yoshiki County in northern Gifu Prefecture. Population 1,229 (1995). The northern part of the village borders Toyama Prefecture at Shirakimine, Koshirakimine, and Karahoriyama, with the Miyagawa River flowing north through the center. The entire area is a mid-mountainous region that is part of the Hida Highlands, and the Takayama Main Line and National Route 360 run along the valley of the Miyagawa River. Located on the prefectural border, the village has had strong cultural and economic ties with Toyama Prefecture since ancient times. With heavy snowfall and a lack of arable land, the area is experiencing severe depopulation, but livestock farming and highland vegetable cultivation are carried out, and rainbow trout farmed in the clear streams are shipped to the Keihin area.Miyagawa [village]Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
