Ochiai [town] - Ochiai

Japanese: 落合[町] - おちあい

A former town in Maniwa County in northern Okayama Prefecture. Its center is where the Asahi River and the Bitchu River meet, and it was formerly the end point of the Takasebune upstream route. The Kishin Line and the Chugoku Expressway pass through the town, and it distributes agricultural and forestry products from the surrounding area. There is a natural habitat of Torafuke mushrooms (a natural monument). In March 2005, it merged with Kitafusa Town in Kamifusa County, and Katsuyama Town, Yubara Town, Kuze Town, Mikawa Village, Kawakami Village, Yatsuka Village, and Nakawa Village in Maniwa County to become a city. 147.92 ^km2 . Population 15,857 (2003).
