A nobleman in the late Heian period. Son of Gon Chunagon Fujiwara Tsunesue and the daughter of Bingo no Kami Fujiwara Kunitsune. After serving as Kurodo no to Emperor Horikawa, he became a councilor in 1094, and from Sadaiben to Shonii Gon Chunagon. In 1102, he was appointed Dazai Gon no Sochi and took up his post, but in 1105, he was dismissed from his post due to a complaint about the murder of a Shinto priest at Hiyoshi Shrine, and was exiled to Suo Province, and the following year he was transferred to Hitachi Province, where he died. A man of practical skill, he was known as a worthy and distinguished minister even before Emperor Horikawa, along with Oe Masafusa and Fujiwara Michitoshi. His dark complexion earned him the nickname "Kuro Sochi" (Black Sochi), a well-known story from the Tale of the Heike and elsewhere, and the fact that he was teased and nicknamed that. His diary written in Chinese was also called Genki.

平安後期の公卿。権中納言藤原経季と備後守藤原邦恒の娘の子。堀河天皇の蔵人頭を経て嘉保1(1094)年参議となり,左大弁から正二位権中納言となる。康和4(1102)年大宰権帥に任ぜられ任地に赴くが,長治2(1105)年日吉社神人殺害に関する訴えにより解官され,周防国に配流され,翌年常陸国に移されてその地で没する。実務家であり,堀河天皇より昔に恥じない名臣として大江匡房,藤原通俊と共に名を挙げられた。色黒で「黒帥」とあだ名されからかわれたことは『平家物語』などで有名な話。その漢文日記も『玄記』と称された。
