…Dancer born in Paris. Son of Gaetano Vestris and dancer Marie Allard. He learned dance from his father, but surpassed his father as a dancer, and danced as first dancer at the Paris Opera for 36 years. He mesmerized audiences with his pirouettes and grand jetées. He was also an excellent teacher, and trained first-class dancers such as Perrault, Bournonville, Diderot, and Elssler. His father, Gaetano Vestris (1729-1808), was born in Florence. …
