Fujiwara no Ujimune

Japanese:
Fujiwara no Ujimune
Year of death: 7th February 14th of the Jogan period (19th March 872)
Year of birth: Unknown. Court noble in the early Heian period. Son of Kazuno Maro and the daughter of Wake no Kiyomaro. In 832, he was appointed as Kazusa Daijo. Afterwards, he held many positions including Mino no Kami and Mutsu no Kami, and during the Seiwa period, he was rapidly promoted, passing through Chunagon and Dainagon, before becoming Udaijin in 870. This promotion was likely related to his marriage to Fujiwara no Yoshiko (Mototsune's half-sister) in 870. His lengthy official career was unparalleled, but apart from his involvement in the compilation of the Jōgan Kaku and Jōgan Shiki, no other notable achievements are known about him. He died at the age of 63 (or 66), and was posthumously awarded the rank of Shonii on the day of his death, but his children did not receive it according to his will. The Shirakawa residence in Higashiyama where he spent his later years is said to have been located on the site of the current Otoyo Shrine (Kashigatani, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City), and after his death, at the request of his wife, it was converted into a temple (Enjoji Temple).
