It is known that when a hole is dug from the Earth's surface into the ground, the temperature (geothermal gradient) gradually rises, and on average, this rise in temperature is about 3°C per 100 m. However, in places where thermal anomalies such as magma, high-temperature rocks, or hot water exist underground, the temperature can rise rapidly with depth. Therefore, by measuring the distribution of ground temperature near the surface, it is possible to estimate the distribution of thermal anomalies deep underground. This type of survey is called geothermal exploration. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
