A deciduous shrub of the Buddlejaceae family. It resembles Buddleja japonica, but can be distinguished by its rounded branches and almost entire leaves. The undersides of the leaves are white and have many star-shaped hairs. Purple flowers bloom from July to October. The stems, leaves, and fruits contain pungent essential oils and saponins, and are poisonous. It is distributed in Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. The basic species has few hairs on the undersides of the leaves and is called Buddleja japonica.
