Gilan (English spelling)

Japanese: ギーラーン(英語表記)Gīlān
Gilan (English spelling)
The name of a region in Iran on the southwestern coast of the Caspian Sea. It is now part of a province. The name comes from the fact that it was once the home of the Gil (Gelae) tribe. The mountainous region was also called the Daylam region because of the people who lived there. The inhabitants speak Gilakī, a dialect of Persian. It is a narrow plain between the Elburz Mountains and the Caspian Sea, with a warm climate and an annual rainfall of over 1000 mm. Many rivers, including the Sefīd Rūd, flow into the Caspian Sea.
