A mushroom of the Basidiomycete Amanita family. Its Chinese name is Zhaogu. Its surface is gray-brown, its interior is white, and it is tasteless and odorless. It is widely distributed in tropical regions. It is cultivated on straw-based mushroom beds in southern China, Taiwan, and various parts of Southeast Asia. That is why it is called the straw mushroom in English. The cap is 7-13 cm in diameter, but it is shipped in a bag-like form before the cap opens. It is used in stir-fries and soups in Chinese cuisine, and canned versions of the boiled mushroom are imported to Japan from China and Taiwan. The canned mushroom's odor can be removed by boiling it briefly before cooking.

担子菌類テングタケ科のキノコ。中国名ツァオグー。表面は灰褐色で，内部は白く，無味無臭。熱帯地域に広く分布する。中国南部や台湾，東南アジア各地で，わらを使った菌床で栽培されている。そのため英名をストローマッシュルームという。傘は直径７〜13cmになるが，傘が開く前の袋状のものが出荷される。中国料理の炒め物やスープに用いられ，日本には水煮したものの缶詰が中国や台湾から輸入されている。缶詰のものは調理する前にサッとゆでると缶臭が消える。
