Businessman and politician. Born in Tokyo. Eldest son of business leader Fujiyama Raita. Dropped out of Keio University's Department of Political Science due to illness. After serving as president of Dainihon Sugar Co., Ltd. (the predecessor of Dainihon Meiji Sugar Co., Ltd.) and Nitto Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. (which was absorbed into Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd. (now Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd.) in 1998), he became chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1941 (Showa 16). In 1942, he inspected the occupied southern territories as an advisor to the Ministry of the Navy. In 1944, he attempted to overthrow the Tojo Hideki cabinet. After Japan's defeat in World War II, he was banned from holding public office, but was released in 1950 (Showa 25). In 1956, he signed the agreement as a plenipotentiary member of the Japan-Philippines Reparations Conference. From July 1957, he served as foreign minister in the first and second Kishi Nobusuke cabinets. He was involved in the negotiations for the revision of the Japan-US Security Treaty. Since 1958, he has been a member of the House of Representatives (Kanagawa 1st district). He served as Director-General of the Economic Planning Agency in the second Ikeda Hayato Cabinet and Chairman of the General Council of the Liberal Democratic Party. While he worked hard to restore diplomatic relations between Japan and China, he also sought to take charge of the government after 1964, but lost to Ikeda and Eisaku Sato in the LDP presidential election, and retired from politics in 1975.
