Waxwing - Waxwing (English spelling)

Japanese: レンジャク(連雀) - レンジャク(英語表記)waxwing
Waxwing - Waxwing (English spelling)
A general term for birds of the waxwing family, subfamily Waxwing, order Passeriformes. Birds of this family are 15-20 cm long, have soft, silky feathers, and a crest. They have short, flat beaks and short legs, and an overall stocky body. The tips of their secondary feathers have a red, waxy substance in the shape of water droplets, which is where their English name comes from. They live in flocks in the treetops of forests, and feed primarily on berries and small fruits. During the breeding season, they live in coniferous forests or mixed forests of deciduous and coniferous trees, building cup-shaped nests in trees and laying 4-6 eggs.
