A general term for crustaceans of the Balanomorpha suborder, Barnacleoidea, and Cirripedia subclass. The conical periclaster surrounding the mantle that encases the body is made up of 4 to 8 fused shell plates. They surround the shell opening in a bilaterally symmetrical arrangement. These shell plates are some of the remains of the numerous shell plates found in the pelagic genus, which are thought to retain a primitive form. The fleshy stalk has been lost, and the shell is attached to other objects at its wide base. The shell opening has a cover plate consisting of a pair of shields and a dorsal plate, which allows the mantle opening to be opened and closed freely.

蔓脚（まんきやく）亜綱完胸目フジツボ亜目Balanomorphaの甲殻類の総称。体を包む外套（がいとう）を取り囲む円錐形の周殻は，4～8個の癒合した殻板からなる。それらは殻口を左右相称的配列をして囲む。これらの殻板は原始の形を残していると思われるカメノテ類に見られる多数の殻板のうちのいくつかが残ったものである。肉質の柄部は失われ，広い殻底で他の物体に固着している。殻口には1対ずつの楯板と背板からなる蓋板があり，外套口を自由に開閉する。
