Dasht-e-Kavīr Desert

A large desert that spreads across the center of the Iranian Plateau in Western Asia. Kabir means salt desert, and most of it is a dry salt and mud plain. However, in the surrounding areas with less salt, plants grow, and oases with springs, wells, and qanats (underground waterways) are scattered here and there, where crops such as date palms and fruits are grown.

西アジアのイラン高原中央部に広がる大砂漠。カビールとは塩砂漠の意で、その大部分は乾燥した塩と泥の平原である。しかし、塩分の少ない周辺部では植物が生育し、泉、井戸、カナート（地下水路）などによるオアシスが点在して、ナツメヤシや果物などの農作物がつくられている。
