Administrative Management Agency

Administrative Management Agency

Based on the National Administrative Organization Act, the Administrative Management Agency was established in July 1948 as an external bureau of the former Prime Minister's Office by the Administrative Management Agency Establishment Act. However, the Administrative Management Agency was abolished on June 30, 1984, and was almost entirely absorbed into the Management and Coordination Agency (now the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) on July 1 of the same year. The Administrative Management Agency's main duties and powers included planning basic matters related to the administrative system in general, comprehensive coordination of the organization, staffing, and operation of administrative agencies, as well as conducting research, planning, drafting, and recommendations on these matters, planning basic matters related to statistics and the improvement and development of statistical systems, supervising the implementation of the work of each administrative agency and making necessary recommendations, and mediating necessary complaints about the work of administrative agencies. The Minister of State was appointed as the Director-General, and the Agency's internal departments were the Director-General's Office, the Administrative Management Bureau, and the Administrative Inspection Bureau. In addition to affiliated organizations such as the Administrative Management Committee, there were also regional branch bureaus (local offices) such as the Regional Administrative Inspection Bureau, the Local Administrative Inspection Bureau, and the Okinawa Administrative Inspection Office.
