1096‐1141 An early scholastic theologian and mystic. His French name was Hugues de Saint-Victor. Born in Belgium or Saxony in Germany, he entered the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Paris in 1115, and later became its abbot and founder of the Saint-Victor school. He revered Augustine and was influenced by the mysticism of Dionysius the Areopagite, and believed that the ultimate goal of theology was to gaze mystical upon God.
