Around 1744 - 1822
A powerful family that established semi-independent principalities in northern Greece and southern Albania, which were under Ottoman control, in the early 19th century. It is said that their ancestors were Meulevi monks (dervis) from Kütahya in western Anatolia. During his grandfather's generation, the family rose to power with Tepelena in what is now Albania as its base, and during his generation, they controlled the southwestern Balkans from the Adriatic coast to Thessaloniki, centered on Ioannina, now part of Greece, and established diplomatic relations with France, which was interested in the region at the time, and used it to check the Ottoman Sultan.

19世紀初めにオスマン帝国支配下の北部ギリシアと南部アルバニアに半ば独立の侯国を築き上げた豪族。祖先は西アナトリアのキュタヒア出身のメウレウィー教団の修道者(デルウィーシュ)といわれる。祖父の代から現アルバニアのテペレナを足場に勃興し，彼の代にいたって，現在はギリシアに属するイオアニナを中心に，アドリア海沿岸からテッサロニキにいたるバルカン南西部を支配下におさめ，当時この地方に関心を寄せていたフランスと外交関係を結んでオスマン帝国のスルタンを牽制した。
