Greater glider-possum

Japanese: フクロムササビ - ふくろむささび（英語表記）greater glider-possum

A marsupial mammal of the Petagliidae family. It glides in both appearance and size similar to the flying squirrel, a rodent. It is much larger than the sugar glider and moves slowly. It has a patagium that stretches from the side of its body, from the wrist of its front legs to the ankle of its hind legs. It is 30-48 cm long, 45-55 cm long, and weighs 1.2-1.5 kg. Its well-developed brood pouch has two nipples. The body color varies from individual to individual, with the back usually being black or dark brown, but some are gray or cream-colored.

有袋目フクロモモンガ科の哺乳類。姿，大きさともに齧歯（げつし）類のムササビに似て滑空する。フクロモモンガに比べてはるかに大型で，動作はゆっくりしている。体側からのび，前足の手首から後足のくるぶしに及ぶ飛膜をもつ。体長30～48cm，尾長45～55cm，体重1.2～1.5kg。よく発達した育児囊には2個の乳頭がある。体色は個体によってさまざまで，背面がふつう黒色あるいは暗い茶色だが，中には灰色あるいはクリーム色のものもある。
